Bowel cancer be gone!

So, I'm not a big fan of blogging (other people's, yes, my own, no), but it has come to my attention that a site with a collection of my work and opinions on the latest research may be beneficial to my career. I'm not entirely sure how much value my thoughts on science are, but regardless, here they are.

Posting this story at work tonight was a little close to home. I found out on Friday that a close friend's father is dying. He had bowel cancer for months and months and had no idea. Now it's spread to his liver and kidney and there's nothing to do but buy some time to say goodbye. To think that 93% of people could survive the disease if it was picked up early is phenomenal. Modern science is pretty amazing, but people still need to get tested. Doctors aren't mind readers guys, come on!

Bottom line: Even though I have done quite a bit of "we're over populated, curing all these diseases is just making the world sick with poverty and starvation" ranting in my time, it's always different when the person dying is someone you love. Call your dads and tell them to get tested today!

Other than that, tonight was news-wise quite uneventful. I have a busy week, on Wednesday I'm attending the State of Design festival for Popular Science in the hope of finding a some cool stories. I have a feature for ScienceAlert brewing (or perhaps percolating?) and a few other projects in the wings. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some sleep somewhere in there.
